The Power of the Holy Spirit

The Power of the Holy Spirit

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. 2 (Cor. 4:7)

For a long time I thought that in order to share the Gospel with others, I had to be eloquent and persuasive in my vocabulary in order for others to believe that God exists. I was totally wrong. St. Pope Paul VI reminds us that the Holy Spirit is the principal agent of evangelization. It is God who gives us the words to share the Good News with others who might not believe. We can’t do it by our own power. Last Summer, I was on a mission trip in Lausanne, Switzerland and I met Cassandra who was an atheist. After sharing the Gospel with her, she allowed me and my friend Sebastian to pray for her. She had a recent collarbone injury which was causing significant physical pain. We prayed for healing. The Lord completely healed her in that moment. She was in total shock. Zero pain. We told her that God healed her in that moment because he loves her and wants a relationship with her. This experience taught me that all we have to do is be open to the Holy Spirit in prayer and he does the rest. God always shows up.
