A bad tree will only bear bad fruit, and a good tree can only produce good fruit.
The Pharisees considered themselves superior to others, being faithful in their practices. In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus speaks to the Pharisees, but his message is also for us. The spirit of the Pharisees is alive today.
Are we guilty at times of being like the Pharisees?
At the heart of being a Pharisee is a spirit of being prideful. Every time we choose to do things our own way, sinning against God, we choose the sin of pride.
The way to combat our prideful inclinations is by praying for the spirit of humility to take over. One concrete way to grow in humility is to ask for forgiveness whenever you sin, whenever you fail.
