I wanted to share my story with you of how Alpha at St. Maurice Parish has helped me to grow.
To give you some context, I was baptized Catholic, raised Catholic and attended Catholic schools. Up until I reached adulthood, I was also involved in the choir (because my friends were) and was a member of the Liturgy Club at my local Parish. I thought I had a pretty solid understanding of my Christian faith and never really had to think too much about it.
But life has a way of moving rather quickly, doesn’t it? As adults, life becomes more complicated and difficult. At some point, we all reach a stage in our lives when we start having those bigger questions about life, faith and God, and sometimes those questions can be overwhelming.
After coming to Mass one Sunday morning and hearing about Alpha, I decided to try it. I was skeptical at first and didn’t want to commit because I had a very busy schedule. I really wasn’t sure if I would like it. Was I wrong! Not only did I enjoy the Alpha sessions, but my life was transformed as a result. I developed a closer relationship with Jesus and coming to Mass on Sundays no longer felt like a chore or an obligation. I still have questions about life, faith and God, but Alpha taught me how to turn to Jesus and ask Him for guidance in making my decisions. In doing so, those questions aren’t so overwhelming anymore.
Out of my experience at Alpha, grew my love for Jesus and out of my love for Jesus, grew my desire to help the Lord and find ways of serving Him. One way was to get involved with Alpha at St. Maurice.
How about you? Why not try Alpha and see what a difference it can make in your life?
